Social media in the workplace not universal

The use of social media in the workplace is not as universal as you might expect. An informal poll conducted via Twitter by Hootsuite shows that almost a quarter of employees are not allowed to access social media and networks while at work.

When Hootsuite posed the question “Are you allowed to use social media at work?” via Twitter, most said yes.

Naturally, those in PR, social media and marketing were keen to point out that having social media access at work was essential to carrying out their jobs. Even police officers, lawyers and professionals across several other industries said they were allowed, even encouraged, to use social media as part of their daily work.
